I
got back to the hotel about 11.30 AM and the whole band was
in the foyer waiting to leave for rehearsal. Daylight saving
had ended here last night so maybe that had something to do
with my lack of punctuality. They left and I went and had a
shower and caught the tube to rehearsal a little later.
We
ran through the set and sorted out a few problems and were all
finished by 3.00 pm. Ron was quite anxious to get going and
became a little toey as he is want to do at times.
Sean,
Wendy and myself then caught a tube to Camden Markets. I'd been
thinking of buying myself a long overcoat as it's starting to
get a bit chilly here and lo and behold, as we were leaving
rehearsal Sean spotted one lying on the footpath. No one was
around to claim it so I thought I might as well have it. It
became part of my "look".
Camden
Markets were extraordinary. The place was alive and a-buzz with
thousands of outrageous people. There were so many stalls with
incredible clothes, shoes, jewellery, the works. And it was
packed. Wendy had walked about ten yards in to the market and
had already made three purchases. Unbelievable. I bought a holographic
disk with the comedy/tragedy theatrical masks somehow trapped
3D inside this thing and then Sean and I checked out the Rastafarian
stall.
After
a couple of hours of wide-eyed amazement the three of us caught
the tube back to the hotel but we were so hungry we stopped
at the other Italian restaurant over the road for dinner. Although
they couldn't speak English, the food was really good. It was
great to spend some time with Sean and Wendy, I really like
both of them.
There
was Italian Opera playing in the background and every now and
then (I'm sure she couldn't help herself) Wendy would suddenly
join in for a few bars and then start laughing. Of course she
was perfectly in tune and it sounded beautiful. What a natural.
When
we came out of the tube at Camden a couple of car horns had
blasted and she put a perfect harmony on top. I was gob-smacked,
it sounded so cool, but I don't think she was even aware she
did it. I'd never really thought of car horns being musical
and creating notes to be harmonised with.
We
had a few really good laughs at the restaurant and then came
back to the hotel. I went to my room (408) watched a bit of
English TV and then John came back. He and Mick had been out
to dinner. He went to bed and I wrote in this diary and then
went to bed.
