Alan has been working as an exhibiting artist for many years and has developed a large body of work – particularly in super-real painting. As well though, he has experimented with object-based work and video production. He has a strong affinity with pop/sub-visual culture, fusing this with personal poetics and theories of self and identity.

Alan Houghton completed a Bachelor of Visual Art Honours degree at University of SA in 2000 and is a practicing visual artist/writer working in Adelaide. He also completed an Audio/Visual course which incorporated film studies at North Adelaide School of Art and produced, directed and edited two short films during 1997.

He has exhibited at the Contemporary Art Centre of SA, Artspace Festival Centre of SA, Exeter Hotel SA, Toast Gallery Sydney and several Graduation Shows, University SA. In January 2013 he began exhibiting in group exhibitions at The Geoffrey Stapleton Gallery and his work is complex as well as relevant to social/cultural issues.
