The Fashion Parade
|
acrylic on canvas - 90 cm x 70 cm (35.5'' x 27.5") |
$1,200 |
This was painted on the street in front of The Geoffrey Stapleton Gallery at
95A Prospect Rd Prospect S.A. in 2012 and concerns itself with the sometimes outrageous creativity invoved in fashion design. One of the last times I got to take my mum on an outing was to the Adelaide Royal Show where a friend, Emma Smith, was part of a show which I think was called "Blooming Marvellous". It was a fashion parade with people dressed as flowers with the most vivid costumes. I thought of that a number of times while I put this painting together.

North By A Point
|
acrylic on canvas - 90 cm x 70 cm (35.5'' x 27.5") |
$1200 |
When I was a child, my grandfather L.W. Mcleod owned the local deli called “Mac’s Tuck Shop” on the corner of Balfour Street. and Main North Road Nailsworth. He was a one-eyed supporter of the local Aussie Rules football club, North Adelaide aka “The Roosters”. In 1960, my sister, the artist Jean Gardiner, painted 2 pictures housed back to back in the same frame (made by my brother Bill Stapleton) of a rooster triumphant and the other beaten and bloodied. Depending on whether Norths won or lost, the appropriate rooster would be on show. That’s what inspired this painting and I feel as though this is a bit of a cross between Jean's two roosters ,and it was painted on the street in front of The Geoffrey Stapleton Gallery, 95A Prospect Rd Prospect S.A. Australia in June 2012.

Green Dress
|
acrylic on canvas - 50 cm x 80 xcm (19.6'' x 31.5") |
$1,100 |
Every now and then a painting comes along and you have no idea where it's come from or what it all means, but somehow it seems to hit a spot. It wan't until the mice appeared that the painting really started to make sense, although I can't for the life of me think why.

$1100 |
Painted out on the street in front of The Geoffrey Stapleton Gallery 95A Prospect Rd Prospect S.A. Australia, it wasn't only an excuse to paint some toys in bright colours, although it was that too. It was also about a tolerant and loving mum who was prepared to play on, even after the party's over and the guests have gone home, just to let fun last a little bit longer. In the background near the castle can be seen "Chickenduck and little CD"

Inspiration/Redemption
|
acrylic on canvas - 90 cm x 70 cm (35.5'' x 27.5") |
$990 |
Painted out on the street in front of The Geoffrey Stapleton Gallery 95A Prospect Rd Prospect S.A. Australia . I was never sure whether to call this piece "Redemption" or "Inspiration" but then I realised that they can be one and the same. Inspiration has always seemed somehow divine to me. It can be found in the most unlikely places, often in the nick of time and ultimately seems to be
delivered by an angel.

After The Accident
|
acrylic on canvas - 90 cm x 70 cm (35.5'' x 27.5") |
$1200 |
This was the first painting I did out on the street in front of The Geoffrey Stapleton Gallery 95A Prospect Rd Prospect S.A. Australia .While I was painting it, a number of people stopped and told me what they thought the painting was about, which was helpful because I don't really think I knew what it was about myself. It had come to me in a dream (that rarely happens) and I sketched it out as soon as I got up.An earlier unfinished version appeared in the Seeing Cycles exhibition, but it was July 2012 before it was properly completed.
