FAVELLA

In Brazil they call the slums, "favellas" and they are home to many thousands of the very poor. They are allegedly ruled by crime bosses and are pretty much a law unto themselves. Ironically, In Rio De Janeiro the favellas command the best views and are very close to the beach. The best real estate in town! This painting was done on GANGgajang's first tour of Brazil in 1995, in a hotel room on Copacabana Beach.
