Square Moon Over Manhatten

acrylic on canvas

16" x 16" / 40.6cm x 40.6cm

I painted this piece around 1986 in the front room of our house in Thompson St. Darlinghurst in Sydney. A good friend, Kevin Govet dropped by the next day and when he saw it, called it "Square Moon Over Manhatten". I thought it was a great line for a song and wrote the chorus of what would become "Square Moon". I showed it to Robert James and he wrote the verses. He played it to the wonderful singer Wendy Matthews and she recorded it for her debut hit album "Emigre".
